JBBQ & Shabu Smithtown

Overview
JBBQ & Shabu Shabu introduces American diners to two other healthy & popular ways in which the Japanese enjoy their fine meats, vegetables & noodles.
Japanese chefs are often praised, & rightly so, for their many refined cooking techniques which elevate ingredients to world-class appeal. Most famous among Japanese cooking techniques is the art of “sushi” preparation. Eaters worldwide agree that enjoying fish & shellfish sushi-style is divine. But what happens to all the other fine foods grown & prepared in Japan that are not lucky enough to be served as part of a sushi meal?
The first cooking technique is the ancient one: grilling food right at the dinner table. Different than “hibachi” where a chef cooks on a big, rectangular griddle, this is where meats (mostly marinated) & vegetables are cooked by diners themselves on a grill surface over charcoal-aided flame. Once cooked to your favorite level of doneness, the grilled food is usually dipped in a variety of sauces. Draft beers, sake, & soju pair exceptionally well in this “yakiniku” style of cooking, as it is called in Japanese. This set-up may also remind diners of the Korean-style in-table barbecue grills (widely known as KBBQ). It would be fair to say that this is the Japanese equivalent & hence our name, JBBQ!
The other way to showcase quality ingredients is to simply add the fresh, uncooked ingredients for a brief time in a hot pot of a flavored broth of your choosing. “Shabu Shabu” literally means “swish swish” in Japanese & it cleverly describes the action of a diner using a small netted ladle or chopsticks to quickly cook foods (usually under 30 seconds) & then dip into sauces. You’ll be surprised how well this showcases the flavors of the thin-sliced meats, vegetables, & noodles you choose.
At JBBQ & Shabu Shabu, we give you the tools & the setup you need to try the freshest ingredients, minimally-processed, & all cooked without unnecessary cooking oils & fats. Our menu is offered all-you-can-eat (AYCE) all-day with few limitations. Choose just the JBBQ AYCE, or just the Shabu Shabu AYCE, or have both AYCE! We also have discount pricing for Children Under 5ft & Under 3ft.
At weekday Lunch time, we also offer set combo lunch meals designed for quicker service if requested.

I went there with my sister and we loved it. The food is really good and you can even make your own sauce. Even tho when we went there it was quite busy, all the employees are so nice and friendly. It is a really good experience if you go with friends or family. One thing i want to highlight is that the employee who was being our waitress was sooo nice with us, he always payed really good attention to us. We were really impressed with how good he was. Overall i really recommend this place, it’s very beautiful in the inside and outside.

My friend from Smithtown introduced me to JBBQ, and it was an amazing experience! The restaurant has a huge parking lot out front, so finding a spot was a breeze. One thing to note: if you choose to do both BBQ and hotpot, everyone at the table must get the same option—no mixing. Our server, a friendly and courteous Asian lady, made the experience even better. She helped cook the spareribs and changed the grill pan frequently, ensuring it stayed clean and free of leftover stains. The food was delicious, and the all-you-can-eat format is perfect for big eaters. If you’re in the area and love BBQ and hotpot, this place is definitely worth checking out with friends and family. Highly recommend!

Was looking forward to a great experience as first time diner but wasn’t too blown away by any of it. Had a very nice and excited server who forgot to raise the heat and her accent made it very difficult for us to understand the overall instructions. Small tables and very speedy service but not as clear instructions made it a bit confusing for us. Over $200 cost of everything because the server recommended items we really didn’t even touch. You don’t need 2 big soup orders for 2 adults and 2 kids but she recommended them and forgot to turn on the heat under 1 of them. Everything they have meat wise is pre sliced and not covered that gets pushed around on a trolly and with very little room on the tables they pile up dishes. Unless you go with someone who knows what to do I wouldn’t recommend this franchise to first time dinning alone. Definitely no one can eat a lot of anything if it’s not cooking lol but whatever it was an experience. This is what I figured out… don’t rely on the sever. Raise the heat knobs are under the table so food can cook faster not like slow roast settings and don’t order whatever they recommend. Carefully select 2-3 items and cook that properly on proper heat then you can ask for additional items. Table of 4 gets 1 hr and 30 min. Good luck getting your server s attention for good 30 minutes plus way too loud music for my taste and I love loud music just not in a restaurant that doesn’t have enough servers on a Saturday night, so your “excuse me” won’t land on any ears. Felt chaotic for $200 plus Dinner cost. I would rather stick with Fago De chao and Limani for such price of sub par over all experience. FYI, you don’t get to go containers but server gave 1 for $10 in which you can fit a very small candy bar. I have a feeling the soup gets re used… I don’t know something about this place felt odd like unethical and unsanitary odd. They don’t allow left overs to be taken home obviously it’s ‘all you can eat’ but if you charge me $200 plus for things I didn’t need but your server recommended to order and left heat at low which we felt bad about the left overs, it seemed unethical to then charge $10 for a tiniest container. Nothing about the place was worth 5 star review. We don’t drink alcohol so sorry it’s a sober customer review.

Hey folks, this is not your ordinary BBQ & Shabu. Such a big place to satisfy MANY BBQ & Shabu lovers! The vibe at JBBQ is at another level. I love the high ceiling, it dramatically changes the dining experience. Imagine feeling suffocated while trying to enjoy your BBQ & Shabu? They really nailed the point on why people dine out for BBQ & Shabu. BECAUSE OUR HOUSES just aren't BUILT FOR THEM. On my first visit, I learned about JBBQ's time limit, it didn't sound so welcoming at first. But, it is to get the restaurant moving, so it's completely understandable. The time limit is sufficient for casual dining for say, 2-4 people, but for big groups, it may require some designated grill chefs and orderers to meet the time constraints. I also saw they don't go easy on the drinks either! They have their standard! Get one of their fun drinks while you're there. And they also show their love for their customers. Make sure you pick up your free ice cream cup on your way out, it's right next to the sauces. Shout out to David, I always want to sit where he's waiting because the staff's ability also plays a big role in meeting JBBQ's time constraints. Had an awesome time, JBBQ. "We'll BE BACK."

One of our absolute favorite places to come for dinner. One of my favorite spots for tokoyaki! The staff is always so great but we had a amazing experience with Miranda. She's a great, attentive waitress! The food is always great and the price is amazing for the portion sizes. Highly recommend!
